Cost-sharing of Highway 16 construction with the federal government was promoted by Premier W. A. C. Bennett. He contended that the trans-provincial route from Jasper to Prince Rupert should be considered a second trans-Canada route.

February 19 marked the date construction began on the Fraser River bridge, as concrete was poured to form footings. Two piers on land and two in the river were built as supports for the bridge. Construction was halted briefly due to a 7.5 foot rise in the water level.

The images of Mr. P. G. and that of the Spruce Dollar were deemed worthy of being protected by copyright. In April, the Chamber of Commerce began the application process for the rights.

For the first time, The Citizen offered door-to-door newspaper delivery beginning in November.

The Prince George Hospital’s 28-bed fourth floor addition was nearing completion. The hospital looked to fulfilling its role as a regional referral centre by requesting the establishment of pathology services and chronic rehabilitation facilities. The provincial government announced in December that a mental health unit was promised for Prince George.

Before year’s end, City Council granted approval for the construction of a cement manufacturing plant.
